Warming up for December

Warming up for December

Brisk southerly winds at 10-20 mph will continue to force the temperature up into the 60's on Saturday and Sunday according to Chief Meteorologist Jeff Lyons.

The southern half of the Tri-State will likely see upper 60's—perhaps close to a record.

Sunday and Monday will be in the mid-to-upper 60s as well during the afternoon with 70 degrees a possibility on Monday.

Rain chances will peak on Tuesday, and temps will begin a quick retreat to the normal range for this time of year.

Freeze warning overnight

Freeze warning overnight

A freeze warning is in effect for virtually all of the Tri-State between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. CDT Thursday.  Temperatures will dip into the lower to middle 30s overnight in southwest Indiana, western Kentucky and much of southern Illinois.

If you have plants that might be susceptible to freezing, protecting them from the cold or bringing them indoors is advised.

Temperatures are expected to warm slightly by Thursday and into the weekend and freezing shouldn't be a problem then.

Mild temperatures perfect for taking in the fall colors this week

Mild temperatures perfect for taking in the fall colors this week

After big fluctuations of warm and cold air this month, well above normal temperatures will be with us much of the week.

The weather right through Thursday should be perfect for capturing fall colors in your neighborhood or at a local park.

Fall colors are peaking now and the mild weather should allow you to capture some wonderful seasonal pictures.

By this weekend, drastically colder temperatures will move in along with a good chance for rain Friday and Saturday.

Downtown will be wet as Isaac rolls in

Downtown will be wet as Isaac rolls in

Downtown Evansville could see as much as four inches of rain as the remnants of Hurricane Isaac blow through the region over the holiday weekend.

A new map from the National Weather Service has the area in a band that will bring steady, heavy rain between Friday and Sunday.

As rain and wind approach, the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) is asking everyone to join emergency management officials in preparing for potential storms and localized flooding.

As predicted for the last several days, thunderstorms rolled into the Evansville area at mid-afternoon.

It's a welcome sight for the area, with rainfall for the month running well under normal.  Temperatures are also cooling off.

Tri-State in bullseye for nocturnal tornadoes

Tri-State in bullseye for nocturnal tornadoes

The National Weather Service in Paducah has confirmed what many in the Tri-State already suspected:  We have a lot of tornadoes that occur in the overnight hours.

Using Data from 1950-2005, the NWS has identified a "Nocturnal Tornado Alley".  As the chart shows, more than 40% of our tornadoes have occured at night.

Between 1996 and 2012, 46 people have died in tornadoes in the Paducah warning area (most of the Tri-State).
