Another breezy day for boating

If you're planning on taking the boat our for a spin Wednesday, better plan on taking it slow.

For the second day in a row, a Lake Wind Advisory is in effect for most of the tri-state. Sustained winds of 10-20 miles per hour will accompany 20-25+ mile per hour gusts.

Winds become stronger over water as there is little resistance or friction to slow them down.

The National Weather Service, which issues Lake Wind Advisory, warns that small boats will be especially affected by choppy waves and are more prone to capsizing.

Jeff updates expected rainfall; weekend forecast

14 News Chief Meteorologist Jeff Lyons says a cold front to our west will bring widespread moderate to heavy rainfall over the weekend. Showers and a few imbedded thunderstorms will move into the Tri-State before midnight and will continue through Saturday and Sunday.

Total rainfall of 2-3" appears likely, and this may cause some localized flooding and also prolong flooding conditions along the Wabash and Little Wabash Rivers.

Weekend weather: Rain and plenty of it

A series of weather systems will push through the Tri-State over the weekend. We'll have periods of rain by Friday evening, and will continue with showers through Sunday. Rain amounts will range around an inch north of the Ohio River to more than 2" south of the Ohio River in Western Kentucky.

Temperatures will hover in the 60's on Saturday and Sunday and then rise into the mid to upper 70's for much of next week. More rain chances are on the horizon for Wednesday and Thursday.

Spring evening on the riverfront

Thanks to 14 News viewer David Horken for this great photo of the Evansville riverfront taken Wednesday night.

We can kiss freezing nighttime temps goodbye. Expect temperatures in the low 60s on Friday and around 70 on Saturday with sunshine around much of the time.

Winter Weather Advisory in effect

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PADUCAH HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW AND SLEET...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 3 AM TO 6 PM CDT SUNDAY.

A strong trough in the upper levels of the atmosphere will move in and help produce widespread rain, snow and sleet in the tri-state early Sunday. Greatest chance for accumulating snow will be along and north of I-64 with 1-3 inches likely.

Elite weather spotter class to be held in Evansville

The National Weather Service will be holding an Elite Skywarn weather spotter class next month.

The free class is scheduled for April 13th at 8:30am at the American Red Cross building on Evansville's east side.

It is recommended you first go through a basic spotter class before attending the Elite course, which is considered an advanced class.

You do not need to pre-register. Call the Vanderburgh County EMA 812-435-6020 for more information.

Winter weather advisory

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the southern counties of Illinois and southwest Indiana.

These counties could see ice developing in the early hours of the event today with a chance for 1 to 2 inches of accumulated snow, followed by another opportunity for sleet and freezing rain as the system moves out of the area.

There is a chance some of this winter precipitation will spill over into other Western Kentucky Counties, particularly those along the Ohio River and those specifically listed in the advisory.
