The Metropolitan Evansville Transit System (METS) says that the Free Ride program will continue for two more days (either Fridays or Ozone Alert days, whichever come first) before program funding is exhausted.

Paving preps underway on Riverside Dr.

Crews are grinding up the old pavement on Riverside and will begin putting the new pavement down on Friday.

Turn signals and other work to be done on the new turn lanes are expected to begin in the next few weeks.

This part of the new downtown traffic improvement project. The goal is for drivers to have easier access in and out of downtown via Riverside Drive.

The turn lanes are scheduled to be fully operational in September.

The Evansville Police Department will provide security for the July 4th Festivities on the Evansville Riverfront.  Fireworks are scheduled to start at  9 p.m.

The police department is anticipating 30-50,000 people to attend the show this year.

The traffic plan is to funnel traffic either west on Ohio, north on Fulton, north on Sycamore, north on Walnut, southeast on Second Avenue, or southeast on Veteran’s Memorial Parkway.

INDOT plans work at Waterworks & 41

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is advising motorists there will be temporary lane restrictions in various locations throughout Vanderburgh and surrounding counties.    

On Tuesday, July 5 and Wednesday, July 6, the U.S. 41 bridge approaches south of Waterworks Road will be part of the work schedule.

INDOT maintenance crews will be performing spot paving in multiple locations.  It is anticipated all work will begin at approximately 7:00 a.m. local time and be complete by 6:00 p.m. each day, weather permitting.

A Vanderburgh County man is in jail after an accident Wednesday morning on the Twin Bridges.

Around 7:00 a.m., deputies say that Hardin Witherspoon, 53, crashed his car as he was approaching the northbound bridge.

The car flipped two times before come back upright to rest.

Deputies said in a release that Witherspoon's two passengers ran away from the scene.

 It's a question many have asked, "Where can I park when going to the new arena?"

There's no doubt when the acts are booked and the doors finally open that the streets of downtown Evansville will get even busier.

Attracting more people and pumping new life into downtown are two of the main reasons the arena is being built there.  However, more people means more traffic in an area where parking is limited.

Dan Varda lives downtown and knows how congested the streets can get.
