Literacy program hosting rummage sale

The Even Start Literacy Program is hosting a Big Gym Sale Saturday, April 14, from 7 a.m. to noon in the Culver Family Learning Center’s gymnasium, located at 1301 Judson St. Hundreds of items will be for sale, including clothing, toys, household goods, linens, furniture, books, electronics and much more.

Proceeds from the sale will support the Even Start Literacy program which for the past 15 years has been dedicated to helping families break the cycle of poverty and illiteracy by offering comprehensive family literacy services.

The wait to download eBooks for free from the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library is over for Kindle users.  Amazon has announced that library customers are now able to download eBooks to their Amazon Kindle devices or Kindle apps on smartphones, tablets, and computers.

Gas prices up nearly 29 cents in the last week

Average retail gasoline prices in Evansville have risen 28.8 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.76/g yesterday. This compares with the national average that has increased 2.8 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.61/g, according to gasoline price website EvansvilleGasPrices.com.

Including the change in gas prices in Evansville during the past week, prices yesterday were $1.12/g higher than the same day one year ago and are 1.4 cents per gallon higher than a month ago.
