Ivy Tech graduation set for Friday night at Ford Center

 

Ivy Tech Community College - Southwest will hold its 50th Anniversary 2013 Commencement Ceremony tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the Ford Center in downtown Evansville. The event is free and open to the public, no tickets are required. The College will recognize a record number of graduates, over 1,000, up 20% from last year. The College will also award more than 1,300 degrees this year, a 24% increase from last year.

Statewide, Ivy Tech Community College will celebrate the largest graduating class in its history as an estimated 16,700 credentials will be awarded.  This year’s credentials represent an increase of 1,200 as compared to last year. Over the last four years, Ivy Tech’s total number of credentials awarded has increased by 67 percent.

It was a day of firsts, as a group of special needs students from Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation explored the Evansville Museum.

The Macy's Creative Fun Day was made possible, in part, by a grant from Macy's. EVSC also contributed some funds.

Nearly 100 students rotated around to six different stations, learning about art, dance and music.

Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation elementary and K-8 schools will host kindergarten orientation meetings on Tuesday, April 2, with the exception of Lincoln School, whose session will be April 9, from 11 a.m. to noon 

Parents/guardians will have the opportunity to enroll students in kindergarten if they haven’t already done so, and receive additional information regarding kindergarten, meet school staff, ask questions and share information about their children.

Sixteen students from the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation will be among approximately 5,000 high school students converging on Orlando, Fl., for the Business Professionals of America (BPA) national conference, May 8-12.

The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation will host graduation ceremonies May 24 and May 25 this year.

Bosse High School will hold its graduation on Saturday, May 25 at 5:30 inside Enlow Field.

Sheila Huff, principal at Bosse High School, was notified recently that she is the recipient of this year’s Indiana Excellence in Education Award from AdvancED, the world’s largest education community and global leader of school accreditation and improvement. The award is presented in each state to one individual who has demonstrated unparalleled leadership in promoting and advancing excellence in education.

Scoreboard ads mean money for Harrison, Bosse other EVSC schools

EVSC Foundation presented ten checks totaling $116,282 to each of the EVSC’s five high school principals and athletic directors in the corporation during tonight’s School Board meeting, from sponsorship proceeds of the L.E.D. scoreboards at each of the five multipurpose complexes including Romain Stadium home of the Harrison Warriors.

The funding is used as building leaders deem appropriate, for a variety of projects and needs at each school.  Some of the things that have been funded through these monies include: classroom strategies for interactive learning, response to intervention services, student memberships in a variety of organizations, senior honor roll luncheon, student travel to academic competitions, and a class set of Advanced Placement textbooks.
