Newly restored Euclid Apartments now open

 

A grand opening was held Thursday evening to mark the grand opening of the historic Euclid Apartments at 413-415 S.E. Third Street. 

The Euclid, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, narrowly escaped demolition after being vacant for approximately 10 years. This is the second historic structure saved from the wrecking ball and restored by Mike Martin, owner and operator of Architectural Renovators, LLC. The company successfully renovated The Audubon Apartments at 832 SE Riverside Drive in 2011.

EPD to host 1st Crime Free Housing training session

Members of the EPD Crime Free Multi-Housing unit will be conducting their first training seminar for Evansville property owners, managers, and maintenance workers. The seminar will be tomorrow, April 23 at 8:00 at the Vectren Building at 211 NW Riverside Dr.

The training will include discussion about the program, lease agreements and eviction procedures, Meth lab recognition, fire safety, gang issues, and crime prevention through environmental design.

Jacobsville residents and stakeholders will gather Saturday, April 13, at 10:00 a.m., at Delaware Elementary School to develop a shared local vision for the Jacobsville neighborhood.

The visioning workshop is facilitated by Jacobsville Join In, the organization working to develop the Jacobsville Quality of Life Plan funded by the City of Evansville.  The Indiana Association for Community Economic Development (IACED) in association with Jim Capraro, Senior Fellow for the Institute for Comprehensive Community Development will lead the workshop on Saturday.

Ribbon cutting for Market Street Living in downtown Evansville

Mayor Lloyd Winnecke was on hand Thursday for a ceremonial ribbon cutting celebrating the completion of a new senior living community in downtown Evansville. 

Market Street Living is a product of The Kunkel Group, an Evansville-based development company.

The company tells us they put in $10.2 million in renovations to the space at the corner of Court & Market Streets.  The 100-year-old building was formerly home to a German singing group, Liederkranz Maennerchor, as well as the Knights of Columbus and Republican Headquarters.

The Community Action Program of Evansville and Vanderburgh County (CAPE) has recently remodeled the house at 402 Adams Ave., and is looking for family to move in.

The home is at the corner of Governor and Adams.

A ribbon cutting ceremony and open house is scheduled for October 20 at 1 p.m.

City Housing Authority gets $1.1 million for public housing

City Housing Authority gets $1.1 million for public housing

U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan awarded today public housing authorities in Indiana more than $21.5 million that will be used to make major large-scale improvements to their public housing units.  The Housing Authority of the City of Evansville will get $1,136,365 of that money.

The grants are provided through HUD’s Capital Fund Program, which provides annual funding to all public housing authorities to build, repair, renovate and/or modernize the public housing in their communities. This funding can be used to make large-scale improvements such as new roofs and to make energy-efficient upgrades to replace old plumbing and electrical systems.

Jacobsville planning and design firm selected

Based on what the city says are "qualifications, competence, experience and reputation", the Evansville Redevelopment Commission today selected Kinzelman Kline and Gossman (KKG), now known as MSI/KKG following a recent merger, to perform urban planning and design services for the Jacobsville Redevelopment Area.

The new master plan will guide future economic development, commercial development and regulatory aspects of the Jacobsville Redevelopment Area.

“I know how important this project is to the people of Jacobsville,” said Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel in a news release. “I am glad we were able to take this significant step forward to revitalize their neighborhood.”
