Less than two weeks after taking office as the 34th mayor of Evansville, Lloyd Winnecke — a University of Evansville alumnus — will share his vision for the city in a moderated conversation as part of UE’s Think Outside the Lunch Box Faculty Speaker Series.

Winnecke will speak at noon on Thursday, January 12, in the Blue & Gold Room on the first floor of Old National Bank’s headquarters in Downtown Evansville. The event is free and open to the public.

Lloyd under consideration for city controller post

Our radio partners at WIKY are reporting that former Evansville Mayor Russ Lloyd Junior has expressed interest in being part of the next mayoral administration, as the city's chief financial officer.

Mayor-Elect Lloyd Winnecke is considering Lloyd for the job of city controller. The controller prepares city budgets and finance ordinances that go to the City Council for consideration.

The controller also manages revenue and expenditures within the budget, which will amount to about $236 million next year.

Democrats celebrate City Council sweep

Democratic city council candidates in Evansville have plenty of reasons to wake up happy Tuesday morning. They were able to sweep all of their contested races in the election.

The Le Merigot Hotel in Downtown Evansville saw a lot of happy people Tuesday night, celebrating a Democratic sweep for all seven council seats that were on the ballot.

Among those winners were three incumbents. Missy Mosby in the 2nd ward, John Friend in the 5th ward and Dan H. Adams, an at-large candidate, all won re-election.

Evansville and Vanderburgh discuss consolidation

Evansville and Vanderburgh discuss consolidation

The Evansville City Council and Vanderburgh County Commissioners met in joint session again Thursday to move forward the city-county consolidation plan.

Thursday night, both departments talked about who should have jurisdiction over North High School and the airport.

There was also a study on how the merger will impact taxpayers. One study showed a savings of three to seven percent while another showed an increase in tax rates.

Critics say the studies have too many assumptions in them.
