Firefighters receive lieutenant promotions

 

Firefighters Jim Payne and Joey Jones can now be officially addressed as Sir.

Payne and Jones received their Lieutenant’s badges and congratulatory handshakes from Chief Mike Connelly and Asst. Chief Paul Anslinger during the brief ceremony held at the EFD Administration Building this morning.

Payne, a 10 year veteran of the department has been assigned to Ladder #1 on SE 8th Street since 2008. Payne was surrounded by his wife, daughter and about 10 other crew members from Station #1.

Evansville Police Sgt. Rodney Riecken is turning in his badge after more than 23 years with the department.  Riecken's last day on the job was Thursday.  Co-workers sent him off with a retirement party held at the police station.

Disabled EPD officer seeking votes in contest for mobility van

Evansville Police Department’s Crime Analyst Curt Todd is in a competition to win a new mobility van.  Todd was hired on to EPD in 1992 and became disabled from a serious spinal cord injury incurred on duty in 1995 assisting EFD on a run aiding an elderly woman in need of extrication.

He is entered in the contest as an Evansville Local Hero. There is a two-minute video on the voting link from EPD summarizing why they believe he is a deserving Local Hero.

Evansville YMCA CEO named to national board

Evansville YMCA CEO Derrick Stewart has been named to the organization's national board of directors.

Stewart was one of five people nationwide named to the post. Each of them will serve a three-year term. They join a 27-person board responsible for setting strategic direction and policy for Y-USA.

During his 12-year YMCA career, Stewart has served in a variety of capacities including Program Director, Community Outreach Branch Director, Chief Development Officer, and Chief Operating Officer.

Shively to be sworn in as judge March 1

Leslie C. Shively will officially take the bench as a Vanderburgh Superior Court Judge, March 1.   A swearing in and robing ceremony, sponsored by the Evansville Bar Association, will take place in his honor at noon that day in the Randall T. Shepard Court Room at the Vanderburgh County Old Courthouse. 

Shively will be sworn in by former Chief Justice Randall T. Shepard and robed by Vanderburgh Superior Court Chief Judge Wayne Trockman. The public is invited to the ceremony. 

A reception will follow immediately thereafter.

Fund set up for local EPD detective fighting leukemia

Nathan Schroer, Evansville Police Detective, is fighting leukemia for the second time.  He is also interim pastor at North Woods church, a loving husband and father of three.

Nathan has been with the EPD since 2002. He has been assigned to Motor Patrol, the Crime Prevention Unit, and the Narcotics Unit. His current assignment is at Holly’s House, where he investigates domestic violence and sex related offenses.

His family will be facing a large financial burden to treat leukemia and he will be traveling to Texas next week.

Tribute celebrations planned to  honor retired museum director

After nearly 38 years of service as Director for the Evansville Museum, John Streetman retired at the end of 2012 and was named Director Emeritus by the Board of Trustees. To celebrate his career, the Museum will hold both a dinner and a public reception in his honor.

The tribute celebration dinner will be Friday, January 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the Walnut Room in the Aztar Conference Center. The dinner will honor all of his accomplishments throughout his career at the Evansville Museum. The night will feature music, speakers, and a few surprises all focusing on this extraordinary leader.
