City's final plan calls for $540 million for updated sewer system

(EVANSVILLE, IN)- Allen Mounts, Director of the Evansville Water and Sewer Utility (EWSU) says $540 million is the price tag on the final plan that will be sent to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) at the end of the month.

The plan would be implemented over 28 years.

Through that time sewer rates would increase from the average $26 per month to almost $90.

The city submitted a first draft to the EPA last summer. Since then, Mounts says the EWSU had some more time to do extra research and analysis.

Busy highway still restricted after culvert pipe giving out

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE)- Part of a busy highway near Downtown Evansville is still closed Monday afternoon causing some traffic delays.

Crews shut down the Eastbound lanes of Veterans Memorial Parkway on Friday near Waterworks Road because of the shoulder of the road collapsing. City Engineer Pat Keepes tells 14 News that the culvert pipe that carries storm water underneath the highway is giving way due to old age, which is cuasing the concrete to buckle.

Failed culvert causes road closures in Evansville

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE)- Some Evansville roads are being closed until further notice.

Veteran's Memorial Parkway traveling eastbound from Waterworks Road to Highway 41 has been shut down due to crews needing to repair a failed culvert.

Wreck on Riverside causing delay in traffic

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE)- The intersection of Riverside Drive and Waterworks Road has been blocked by an accident.

A driver of a green Cavalier is being sent to the hospital with abrasions on her neck, and then will be arrested for being intoxicated according to police.

There were two males in the car with her, who are not injured.

One passenger from the orange Chevrolet HHR is being sent to the hospital to be checked out.

Due to the accident, the southbound and northbound lanes on Riverside are on open to one lane.

United Way hosting a spring food drive for much needed donations

You've heard of the sequester hitting several local agencies, but the Tri-State Food Bank in particular is feeling the pinch.

So much so, in fact, that instead of having it's annual event where volunteers spruce up local non-profits, United Way is hosting a food drive Friday.

The Tri-State Food Bank serves 33 counties.

Last year state funding cut donations by 1.4 million pounds.

The sequester this year took away an additional 5 percent or about another half a million pounds of food.

EVSC students get creative during Fun Day at Evansville Museum

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE)- Some EVSC students explored the Evansville Museum on Wednesday as part of Macy's Creative Fun Day.

It's National Tourism Week, and the local Evansville Convention and Visitor's Bureau celebrated by showing off their newly remodeled offices at the Pagoda. 

The renovations took about six months to complete.

Mark Newman, the Executive Director of the Indiana Office of Tourism Development has been touring around the state and says Evansville will have some exciting opportunities ahead.
