EPD: More complaints against local contractor | News
There are two more complaints against a local contractor, and they appeared in the Evansville Police reports on Wednesday.
James Galloway was arrested on Tuesday, and charged with home improvement fraud.
Resident Janice Smith hired Galloway to re-roof her home and garage last November. He also said he'd carpet her porch and steps.
EPD PIO Karen Kajmowicz says, "He offers to do some work, gives them an estimate, then will do a portion of the work and then never complete it, or will not do any work at all. What he's doing is getting money up front, and then not following through with what he promised."
The EPD says this isn't new for Galloway, who has been arrested for the same thing twice before, once in Warrick County.
Smith even documented conversations and monetary transactions she had with Galloway, saying he owes her thousands of dollars. She has agreed to share these warning signs with other residents to warn them.
Smith says, "He paid my grandson $50 to paint the spindles on the deck because he didn't have anybody to help and he didn't have time to do it."
PIO Kajmowicz says, "He's got his salt and pepper hair and he's well spoken. If you're going to judge by the cover of the book, he looks reputable."
The EPD says since Galloway was arrested, three more victims have come forward.
PIO Kajmowicz says when hiring a contractor, never pay up front. If they're not in the Better Business Bureau or they have complaints, move on.
Galloway appeared in court on Wednesday. He's currently in the Vanderburgh County Jail on a $15,000 cash bond.
His next court date is September 19. We'll keep you updated.
