Think you can't run a marathon? Join the YMCA's Jump Start program | News
If you've ever dreamed of running a marathon, but think you're way too out of shape to do it, the Downtown YMCA has a program just for you.
It's called Jump Start and the first class starts at 6 o'clock Tuesday night.
The class meets every Tuesday and Thursday at 6 p.m. and Saturday mornings at 7 o'clock.
Becky Melchior, Wellness Manager says it was designed to target the people who are at home and think they could never run a mile.
"Our main focus is getting those people off the couch and getting them to understand that yes they can do that. We start with a mile and you can walk every single step. We gradually go up. By the end of the seven weeks we're up to three miles," she says.
Becky says some people who graduate from the Jump Start program continue on to do "Team 13" which trains people to run a half marathon.
The class has no cut off for the number of people that can register, or when.
