Construction starts on busted culvert pipe | News
EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE)- Work has finally started along the Veterans Memorial Parkway after a culvert pipe gave out last week.
Cars are being detoured while construction gets underway on the east-bound side of Veterans Memorial Parkway. It's caused a bit of a traffic jam around the parkway and we aren't sure how long drivers will be facing this in the coming weeks.
14 News spoke to Evansville City Engineer Pat Keepes on Friday who says construction on the road's busted culvert pipe began Friday morning. It seemed Friday's rainy conditions put a stop to operations, at least for a time.
The rain is an issue Keepes mentioned to us last week and says the rain water that flows through the existing culvert pipe carries some of the new material being placed there with it. When asked how long we can expect the construction there to last, he says it's premature to say exactly how long it will take at this point, but says if the weather stays clear, it shouldn't take longer than a couple of weeks.
Of course we will continue to monitor the construction, and bring you updates as we get them.
