EPD:  Traffic stop leads to drugs, fugitive

A traffic stop on Riverside Drive led to two arrests over the weekend.

Police on patrol say they noticed a minivan driving strangely.  Police pulled the van over and asked the driver, Cynthia Nordhaus where she was going and who her two passengers were.

Police say Nordhaus couldn't answer their questions and they found crack cocaine, some marijuana and a glass pipe in her purse and pants.

Evansville police have been battling a number of moped thefts in the area this summer.  Now, they say they found a man running a stop sign on a stolen moped.

Late Monday night, officers pulled Orlando Kelly over at Riverside and Grand.  The reporting officer said he observed Kelly running a stop sign.

The officer said that as soon as Kelly got off the moped, he starting telling police that it wasn't his and that he borrowed it from his brother.

The Evansville Police Department is investigating three sexual assaults that occurred in the area of the 1600 block of Morton and the 1500 block of South Linwood.

The first assault took place on January 25, 2011, a Tuesday, at 9:00 pm, in the 1600 block of S. Morton.   The second assault took place on March 15, 2011, a Tuesday, at 3:15 am, in the 1500 block of S. Linwood and the third assault took place on May 16, 2011, a Monday, at 10:00 pm, in the 1600 block of S.

Two men were arrested early Thursday morning and charged with burglary after Evansville police say they gained entry into Jay Sales at 36 W. Delaware Street and then led police on a foot chase north of downtown.

An Evansville man was arrested after police say he attacked a woman downtown.  A good Samaritan may have kept the situation from getting worse.

According to a police report, a woman was walking in Downtown Evansville when she noticed a man following her. She tried to get away from him but he caught up with her at Tenth and Chestnut.

The victim told police the suspect knocked her to the ground and ripped at her clothes and pulled her hair.
