Donate your old cell phone to domestic violence survivors

Hoosiers donated 18,478 no-longer-used wireless phones to HopeLine from Verizon in 2011 to support and put resources into the hands of domestic violence survivors in Indiana, including more than 2.7 million minutes of airtime to maintain critical and daily connections with employers, doctors and schools.

The number of phones reflects a 23 percent annual increase in donations from Hoosiers during a year when economic pressures and unemployment brought increasing numbers of families seeking aid to Indiana shelters.

HopeLine wireless phone donations are accepted at all Verizon Wireless communications stores across the nation, including those in Evansville.  For a complete list of stores, visit: http://www.verizonwireless.com/storelocator.

Really Big Show set for Saturday night

Really Big Show set for Saturday night

For Evansville ARC’s signature fundraising event, The Really Big Show, organizers say they are pulling out all the stops to celebrate its 10th anniversary on Saturday, February 11.

The Really Big Show is a community variety show, hosted by 14WFIE meteorologist and Evansville ARC board member  Jeff Lyons, bringing together some of the best musicians, dancers, comedians and entertainers in the Tri-State (and a few guest appearances by community notables).

The event is hosted at The Centre in Evansville, and is followed by a Curtain Call Reception including hors devourers, drinks, dancing, and a silent auction to benefit the Bayleigh Pauckner Endowment to support the Child Life Center. Proceeds from ticket sales and sponsorship benefit the area of greatest need at Evansville ARC.

Rotaract Club donates $24,000 to Vanderburgh Community Foundation

The Rotaract Club of Evansville will donate $24,000 to create a charitable fund with the Vanderburgh Community Foundation.  This is the largest donation ever by a young professionals group to the Foundation and one of the largest such gifts in the state.  The Rotaract Fund will be supplemented by a $1,000 match by the Foundation and the proceeds of the fund will be used to support charitable efforts in the Evansville area in perpetuity.

The Rotaract Club of Evansville was charted in May 2001, sponsored by the Downtown Rotary Club. As an organization of young professionals (ages 21-35) in the Evansville community, Rotaract members are involved in many other community organizations and have a variety of careers.
