Workshop Saturday for Jacobsville planning

Jacobsville residents and stakeholders will gather Saturday, April 13, at 10:00 a.m., at Delaware Elementary School to develop a shared local vision for the Jacobsville neighborhood.

The visioning workshop is facilitated by Jacobsville Join In, the organization working to develop the Jacobsville Quality of Life Plan funded by the City of Evansville.  The Indiana Association for Community Economic Development (IACED) in association with Jim Capraro, Senior Fellow for the Institute for Comprehensive Community Development will lead the workshop on Saturday.

Great improvements but safety still lacking

Great improvements but safety still lacking

There's been a lot of progress in the Glenwood neighborhood on Evansville's south side, including 45 new Habitat for Humanity homes!

The area has been home to many improvements lately, as part of a community development push. The initiative began back in 2008, between Habitat for Humanity and the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation.

In a press conference on Thursday, the group says most progress was seen in housing, education, and health and wellness.

Volunteers needed for LST 325 Work Week

Volunteers needed for LST 325 Work Week

The LST 325 is looking for a few good men and women to help with some spring cleaning.  The warship's annual Work Week is less than a month away, scheduled for April 15-22.

Last year, volunteers from about 20 states helped with things like painting and work on ballast tanks at the bottom of the ship.

Volunteers typically stay on board the ship all week long.  The day starts with breakfast at 7am and work begins around 8 a.m.

Police and firefighters do the Harlem Shake to promote Guns and Hoses

Guns & Hoses, the annual boxing matches between Evansville Police and firefighters, is April 20 at the Ford Center.  You can't accuse these guys of not doing everything they can to drive ticket sales and help 911 Gives Hope.

The Harlem Shake is alive and well at EPD headquarters.

Help a local senior by donating new pajamas

Help a local senior by donating new pajamas

A non-profit group that's been advocating for the rights and dignity of nursing home residents in Vanderburgh County for more than 30 years, VOICES, is holding pajama drive for seniors.

Executive Director Michelle Motta says the majority of residents living in long-term care homes receive Medicaid to help pay for their care. All of their monthly check, except $52, goes to the facility to help pay for the cost of their care.

Costs of their personal phone/cable service, haircuts, snacks, clothes and other basic needs are often the responsibility of the resident.  That means many are often in need of good quality pajamas.
