First Security Bank opens downtown; giving away trip

First Security Bank celebrated the opening of its new downtown Evansville location Friday morning with a gathering of Chamber of Commerce members who cut a ceremonial ribbon.

The bank has been open since last month in the space formerly occupied by Integra Bank.

Company officials say the newest location boasts spacious offices for use of customers and includes the parking lot and drive-in facility across the street at the corner of Third Street and Locust.

EVSC students advance to national business competition

Sixteen students from the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation will be among approximately 5,000 high school students converging on Orlando, Fl., for the Business Professionals of America (BPA) national conference, May 8-12.

The following students have qualified to compete at the conference. The award they won at the state level and school is noted below.

First Security opens downtown branch

First Security Bank announced today the opening of their new office in downtown Evansville located at 21 S.E. 3rd street. This location was formerly occupied by Integra Bank as their headquarters. The bank celebrated this event by holding an open house Thursday night with over 500 customers and friends attending.

First Security announced last August the purchase of four floors of the business condominium structure totaling around 70,000 square feet of space. The property purchased included the basement and floors 1, 2 & 3 along with the parking lot and drive in facility across the street at the corner of Third Street and Locust. Signage for the building is being erected today.

Area preschool and daycare facilities are invited to participate in the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library’s 6th annual Preschool Fair on Saturday, April 6.  The fair will be from 10:00 am-2:00 pm in Central Library’s lobby.

Parents and caregivers will have the opportunity to explore childcare and preschool options available in the Evansville area at this free event.

Fast Eddy's, the Downtown Evansville bar and restaurant that closed last summer, is being liquidated.

Curran Miller Auction/Realty, Inc. says the company will hold an online-only auction of just about everything inside beginning March 26.  (Click here to go to the online auction page)

Some of the items up for auction include restaurant equipment, neon and mirrored beer signs, bar stools and liquor.  A life-sized Elvis statue and giant shoe are also up for grabs.

Evansville YMCA CEO named to national board

Evansville YMCA CEO Derrick Stewart has been named to the organization's national board of directors.

Stewart was one of five people nationwide named to the post. Each of them will serve a three-year term. They join a 27-person board responsible for setting strategic direction and policy for Y-USA.

During his 12-year YMCA career, Stewart has served in a variety of capacities including Program Director, Community Outreach Branch Director, Chief Development Officer, and Chief Operating Officer.

New plastics distributor opens downtown

With more than 10 years of experience in the US and Mexican resin industry Alfonso Vidal has recently started Vidal Plastics, LLC in downtown Evansville.

According to the Growth Alliance for Greater Evansville, the new venture was formed "after carefully considering market conditions, the availability of resin products in this area, and the advantages in logistics and distribution due to Evansville’s location."

In addition, Vidal Plastics, LLC will be certified as a minority-owned enterprise (MBE), giving it a competitive advantage over other similar distributors.
