Tips on tea offered at ECC event

The Evansville Philharmonic Crescendo Club will host a “Symphony Tea” on Sunday, April 22 at 5:00 p.m. at the Evansville Country Club.  Proceeds from the Tea will benefit the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, a non-profit organization.  Reservation deadline has been extended to 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 18.

Those who attend will enjoy a presentation by Jean Noyes, an Englishwoman and Tri-State resident well-versed in English tea customs.  Gina McCalister from Mulberry Jean’s in Newburgh will share information on the health benefits of teas.  “This will be a priceless experience to share with family and friends in an intimate setting,” says Christina Harp, co-chair for the event.

Crossroads Christian Church takes familiar Easter service to new home at Ford Center

Crossroads Christian Church is taking its annual Easter celebration to the new Ford Center on Sunday, April 8 at 10:00 a.m.  The event, which began downtown in 1991 at the Center (then Vanderburgh, Auditorium) moved to Roberts Stadium in 1995 and remainded there until this year.  Organizers anticipate a record attendance of over 10,000.  Last year's event hit over 9,400, but the new location is expected to draw additional attendees.

Glen Campbell farewell tour coming to Aiken Theatre

Music legend Glen Campbell is coming to Evansville June 9.  He'll play the Aiken Theatre at The Centre.

“The Goodbye Tour” is his farewell to concert touring.  In June 2011, Campbell said he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Because of his illness, Campbell wanted to do a farewell tour for all his fans before he retires from the music industry.

The Arts Council's next exhibit will feature the Signature School International Baccalaureate Art Students.  The opening reception for the exhibit will be Friday, March 16 beginning at 6:00 pm.  The show will feature nine students including: Alyson Adams, Jarrod Bouchie, Baylor Dowdy, Caroline Ellert, Claire Fox, Allissa Gronotte, Chelsie Kasun, Megan Parker and Greta Smith and each student has 12 pieces on display for a total of 108 pieces.

Clinton Bosler teaches Fine Arts Connections, Visual Art 1 & 2 IB Art and AP Studio Art at Signature School and has helped give the students direction for their assignments.

“It is quite an honor for the IB students to have this opportunity to be able to display their artwork and artist statements in the Bower-Suhrheinrich Foundation Gallery,” said Bosler.

Southwest Indiana high school art show begins March 15

Now in its 49th year, the HIGH SCHOOL ART SHOW continues the tradition of honoring young artists from our region. Students currently enrolled in Grades 9 through 12 in public and private schools in Vanderburgh, Warrick, Pike, Posey, and Gibson Counties in Indiana entered work in the categories of painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, jewelry, textiles, ceramics, photography and commercial design.

The March 15 – April 15 Old Gallery exhibition will open with an awards reception on Thursday, March 15 at 7:00 p.m. Volunteers from the Museum Guild and Museum Docent Association had nearly 800 entries, with 125 pieces accepted into the exhibition. The pieces were reviewed by this year’s juror, Becky Alley, Exhibitions and Programs Director for the Lexington Art League (LAL) in Lexington, Kentucky.

The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library and the Evansville Area Reading Council welcome Jennifer L. Holm, award-winning children’s and young adult author, to Central Library on Saturday, March 10. 

Holm will speak about her work and sign copies of her books at 10:30 am in the Browning Events Room.  Barnes and Noble will have books available for purchase at the event.  Her books include Babymouse, Squish, Turtle in Paradise, and Our Only May Amelia, to name a few.

Celtic band to perform at library's St. Pat's Day celebration

Rowan Tree, Evansville’s own Celtic band, will perform traditional Irish music at the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library’s annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration on Sunday, March 11, at 2:00 pm in Central Library’s Browning Events Room. 

The entire family is invited to enjoy lively Irish tunes at this free event.
